On Japanese websites, text such as campaign banners, menus, price lists and announcements is often embedded in images. When fetching a page, Sotomuke checks its images, automatically detects those containing text, and translates the text. The translated text can be edited under "Edit translations" just like any other text, and your glossary is applied.
Display options on translated pages
Under "Manage translations" → "Text in images" for a page on your site, you can choose one of the following display options for each language.
| Unchanged | The image is left as is, and only the alt text is translated. This is the default for logos, icons and buttons. |
|---|---|
| Show translation below | The translation is shown in small text directly below the image. Free. It has little impact on the layout and is well suited to menus and price lists. This is the default for images containing text. |
| Overlay translation on image | The translation is displayed over the original text. Free. Well suited to banners with plain backgrounds. Because the image is wrapped, the layout may change depending on your CSS. |
| Automatic redrawing | The text areas of the original image are filled with the background color, and a new image with the translation drawn in is generated to replace it. This is a one-time purchase of ¥100 per image per language. Before purchasing, you can check the result with "Preview redraw." Results may not be satisfactory for text over photos or text with elaborate designs. |
| Replacement images | If you upload a translated image created by a designer (PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP, up to 3MB), that image will be served on pages in that language. |

Re-rendered images are updated automatically even if you edit the translation afterward.
